Woman Leads Double Life While Working Remotely from Africa Without Authorization

An American woman is opening up about her double life working remotely overseas without permission from her job. In an as-told essay from Business Insider , the woman who remained anonymous had a lot to say about the year she spent working internationally and the hoops she had to jump through to make it happen The nameless mom says she was allowed to work at her dream job, a sleep-study lab in Virginia. However, things changed after she became pregnant with her son. She worked up until the day she went into labor. Thankfully, her boss approved for her to work remotely from home to spend more time with her newborn.  “At that time, I was the only remote employee who worked for this company,” she told Business Insider. “Working at home wasn’t a luxury a lot of other people had the option to do, and I felt grateful. It was the only way I could take care of my son and not lose this dream job.” The new mother felt she was in the perfect position. She had her dream job and the flexibility...

iPhone 12’s the most exciting new feature might have already leaked

A couple of weeks ago, Apple afternoon reported fiscal fourth-quarter earnings of $3.03 per share, handily beating the Street’s consensus on the back of record revenue totaling $64 billion. Anytime Apple has recorded a big beat like that in the past, we all knew that it could be attributed almost entirely to strong iPhone sales — but that’s not the case anymore. Top smartphone markets around the world are saturated and flagship devices are more expensive than ever, so people are keeping them longer than they have in the past. As a result, Apple recently adjusted its strategy to focus more on services and wearables. Considering Apple’s top smartphone rival Samsung just reported September-quarter profit that plummeted a whopping 56% on year, it’s fairly safe to say that Apple made the right decision by branching out. There’s really no question that adjusting its strategy to rely less on iPhone sales was the proper move, but there’s also no question that the iPhone is still A...

Tim Cook hints that an iPhone subscription could be Apple’s next big move

It probably hasn’t escaped anyone’s attention that the name of the game these days at Apple is subscription revenue, as the iPhone maker’s signature hardware product continues to mature and the company looks for new ways to generate recurring revenue. This is why we’ve seen Apple roll out subscription packages that offer video games, music, TV, and news, all of which have combined to push the company into a completely new era. Previously, the entirety of the company had been oriented around the sale of expensive hardware. If Apple is truly committed to its new emphasis on services, however, one aspect of its operation still needs to change — and during Apple’s earnings call with analysts this week, that’s exactly what CEO Tim Cook signaled he’s open to. Investors have wondered for years whether Apple might be open to selling iPhones via a subscription, one which could include some of the other offerings that Apple customers subscribe to. Cook was asked about that this ...

China rolls out world's biggest 5G network

Three state-owned carriers revealed their 5G data plans this week What just happened? China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom have launched 5G services across 50 cities in the country including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Huawei, blacklisted by the US, reportedly played a major role in China's 5G rollout. The launch of the network was initially planned for next year but got pulled ahead of schedule by the state-owned carriers. 5G networks have rolled out in several parts of the western world, but China's roll-out of the technology on Friday is reportedly the world's largest (yet). Prices of 5G plans by all three state-run telecom operators start at around $18 / month (30GB /500 call minutes) and scale up to $85 / month (300GB / 3,000 call minutes), which some experts say are potentially still too high for widescale adoption, given China's per-capita income. Reportedly, download speeds will also vary according to data plans. Subscribers o...

Samsung announces the first 108MP camera sensor designed for smartphones

Samsung has unveiled its new 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX camera sensor, which it says is the first in the industry to go beyond the 100 million-pixel mark. Back in May, Samsung introduced the 64-megapixel ISOCELL Bright GW1. Last month, Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi posted an image taken on an unknown handset showing the level of detail this sensor can capture. Additionally, Realme CEO Madhav Sheth Realme showed off some photos taken by its 64MP quad-camera phone, which also uses the GW1 sensor, that can shoot images up to 9,216 x 6,912. While we’re still waiting for a handset with a 64MP camera to release, Samsung has unveiled its ISOCELL Bright HMX, which ups the megapixel count to a massive 108MP. Like the 48MP and 64MP sensors, this latest version is part of Samsung’s 0.8-micrometer (μm) image sensor lineup. The new 1/1.33-inch sensor is another to utilize pixel-merging Tetracell technology, which merges four pixels into one, allowing it to take 27MP photos in low-light environmen...

Apple's iPhone XR goes up for pre-order tomorrow starting at $749

Early iPhone XR reviews will likely hit the web by the middle of next week, if Apple’s previous embargos are any indication. The first batch of new iPhones received favorable reviews but several recommended waiting to see what the iPhone XR brings to the table before making a purchasing decision. Apple’s budget-minded iPhone XR goes up for pre-order tomorrow. The handset, introduced in early September alongside the flagship iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, will be offered in a variety of colors including white, black, blue, coral, yellow and red. The iPhone XR features a 6.1-inch “Liquid Retina” display that adopts Apple’s full-screen, notched design. Like its siblings, it’s powered by Apple’s new A12 Bionic chip and ships running iOS 12. Unlike the more expensive versions, however, it utilizes a cheaper LCD panel and only has a single rear-facing camera. It also carries a lesser IP67 rating versus the IP68 rating of the XS-class devices.       ...

U-17 World Cup: Golden Eaglets Set For Netherlands Challenge

Five-time world champions, the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have been tipped as favourites when they confront Netherlands in Tuesday’s Round of 16 clashes at the FIFA U17 World Cup finals in Brazil. Victories over Hungary and Ecuador were obtained at the Estadio Olimpico while the loss to Australia was in Brasilia. Now, the Nigerian youngsters are back at the familiar surroundings of Estadio Olimpico and are determined to go all out for victory against the Dutch on Tuesday night. Nigeria forward Ibrahim Sa’id is the only player to have scored a hat-trick at the tournament, and team captain Samson Tijani has also weighed in with two goals – both against Hungary in a tough-as-nails opener.
